Tracy Feldman : For the love of the City

Tracy FeldmanFor the love of the City is Tracy Feldman's celebration of Lancaster, a city that Tracy believes has defied expectations by reinventing itself to become a much more vibrant and interesting city than it was in the 90's. She loves the way it did this while still honoring its historic roots. Many of her works strive to visually capture that evolution. For the Love of the City opens with a First Friday reception from 5pm until 8pm on December 5th at downtown Lancaster’s Mulberry Art Studios. On December 7th a Sunday reception will be held from 1pm until 4pm.

For the Love of the City is dominated by new pieces in oil, but includes a few previously shown pieces as well. The works in this exhibit show the continued evolution of Tracy’s reality with a twist painting style – where juxtaposition of images, reflections, unexpected points of view or scale, and/or painting titles challenge the viewer to look beyond the surface reality. “Thus, the sun-drenched reflection of the area around the Central Market is as much the star of Late Day at the Academy as is the music school’s new facade. The adorable children in The YWCA Express celebrate Lancaster’s evolving multi-ethnic nature in a setting that reflects the equally important modern and historical elements that are Lancaster today” explains Tracy.Tracy Feldman

Tracy came to art as an adult, and her life-long interests (people, social activism, teaching, science, and the natural world) have always informed her choice of subjects. She began painting in 1984. Tracy has studied art in England, Ireland, and Oregon, as well as in her home area, Lancaster, PA. This is her fourth one-woman show. She also has participated in many group shows and has had work in juried shows. Her work is in private and corporate collections locally, as well as in Oregon, California, Florida, Maryland, Michigan, and Europe. She currently paints full time and is active in a number of professional organizations, including the Lancaster Country Art Association where she is currently the membership chair and newsletter editor.

Ovation:

Ovation: A group of artists that create, inspire and entertain. Ovation, a complete art experience with performance art, music, two dimensional and three dimensional works and functional craft represented, will be at Mulberry Art Studios throughout the month of Decemeber. A First Friday opening reception will be held from 5pm until 8pm on December 5th, followed by a Sunday Reception from 1pm until 4pm on December 7th.

Ovation: a prolonged celebration and welcome. This word represents the inspiration that drives the creativity of this group of artists, many of whom collaborate in the world of live theatre- on stage and behind the scenes.

The concept for Ovation evolved when artist Ange Bentivegna was asked to do a one-woman show at Mulberry Art Gallery. December is a time for celebrations and family events and Ange was inspired to bring together thirty talented artists. They come from the entire Susquehanna Valley and include painters, craftsmen, sculptors, actors and musicians. .

Steve Rannels : Moth EyesSteve Rannels : Art In Nature

With his latest exhibit, artist Steve Rannels aspires to show others the incredible beauty that surrounds us daily, the “art in nature”, with the hopes that this appreciation will lead to a deep respect for and conservation of our natural world. Art In Nature will be exhibited throughout the month of Decemeber in Studio #210 on the second floor. A First Friday reception will be held from 5pm until 8pm on December 5th, followed by a Sunday Reception from 1pm until 4pm on December 7th.

Art In Nature is a combination of photographs and high resolution scans of subjects, sometimes combined to form life cycles, artistic patterns and groups of related species. They reflect a broad interest in the natural sciences and an accumulated knowledge and appreciation of nature. Rannels has been interested in the natural world since early childhood when he joined the entomology club of the 4-H. He learned to identify insects and collected them as required to learn all of the orders. His fascination for insects now persists 50 years later as he photographs insects in nature and scans butterflies and moths from his old collection Steve Rannels : Flamingo and newly acquired specimens. Many scans are obtained from live insects that are released back into their appropriate habitat. The urge to understand the natural world and its dynamic interrelationships has nurtured interests in wildflowers, mushrooms, amphibians and virtually any other biological system.

Rannels attended Penn State University as a zoology major and then obtained a Ph.D in physiology at the Penn State University College of Medicine in Hershey, where he resides with his wife Sharon, a native of New Zealand. His professional career includes basic research and teaching graduate and medical students. He gives talks on a variety of subjects in the natural sciences to bird clubs, Audubon and conservancy groups and educational centers. Steve and Sharon are active in local bird clubs and land conservation groups. His philosophy is to preserve as much of the environment as possible for all species.
