Clif Slonneger & Krista
Pflanz:Canvas & Collage:
January 2006
Lancaster is in for a treat
this January when the 'Canvas & Collage',
an exhibit
featuring the artwork of Clif
Slonneger and Krista
Pflanz, opens at Mulberry Art
Studios. The exhibit will run from January
6th until February 3rd, 2006. The public
is invited to meet the artists at an opening reception
on January 6th from 3:00 until 9:00, and again
on Sunday January 8th from 12:00 until 4:00. The
artists would also like to invite the public to
join them for a mid-month reception on January
22nd from 12:00 until 4:00, and for February's
First Friday reception on February 3rd from 3:00
until 9:00. The exhibit is also open
for viewing during Mulberry Art Studio's normal
gallery hours, Monday through Friday from 10:00
until 4:00 with evenings and weekends available
by appointment.
Clif Slonneger
contributes the “Canvas" portion of the
show. Slonneger, who works with
all paints including oil, acrylic, and even
latex and enamels, paints mostly on canvas,
occasionally using corrugated cardboard. Slonneger
graduated from Millersville in 1981 with a
BA in Art and BS in Art Education. Though
he initially wanted to paint like Andrew Wyeth,
he found the cathartic nature of abstract expressionism
and his style ended up more like that of Jackson
Pollack. “After minimal exposure
by sporadic participation in some outdoor art
shows, I decided to make my leap of faith into
attempting a full time art career” says
Slonneger. His January show at Mulberry
Art Studios will be his very first gallery
show.

“Rebuilding
A Girl” the "Collage" portion
of the show, is the latest exhibit
to come from Krista Pflanz, a collagist
who began creating artwork about three years
ago. Images of women from the 1880's
to the 1920's is Pflanz's main subject matter. "I
find these to be uniquely beautiful, whimsical,
and slightly odd" says Pflanz of her vintage
images. She also loves using vintage
ephemera, transparencies, crystals, beads,
and scraps of fiber and leather in her work. Pflanz,
who lives in England as a young girl,
now resides in Lancaster with her husband,
daughter, and dog. Says Pflanz, "Being
an artist in Lancaster is awesome because
this city is becoming a premiere place for
experiencing and enjoying all kinds of art." Pflanz's
work is currently being shown at Lititz's
Gypsy Hill Gallery, as well as at Manheim's
TruExpressions Fine Art Gallery.
