Gary G. Greene : 40 Years and Still At It : October 2006

40 Years and Still At It… A Retrospective of the Art of Gary G. Greene will be showing in the East Gallery and the Mulberry Room of Mulberry Art Studios throughout the month of October.  The public is invited to attend an opening reception on Friday, October 6th from 5:00pm until 8:00pm.  The artist will also be hosting a reception on Saturday, October 7th from 11:00am until 3:00pm.  This show will be available during Second Sunday events on Sunday, October 15th from 1:00pm until 4:00pm.

This forty year retrospective collection will display artwork done in watercolor, oil, pastels, and etching, and will include at least one piece from each year.  Greene has worked in many different mediums throughout the past forty years, but finds watercolor to be the most spontaneous and portable.  Those are important qualities since Greene prefers to paint out in nature, where he finds the most inspiration.  “Nature is awe-inspiring” says Greene.  “I feel so much closer to God when out in nature… in the woods, on a hillside, or by a pond.”

More than three thousand of Greene’s paintings are part of private and corporate collections.  Greene has had one man exhibitions in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Washington, DC; including a twenty-five year retrospective show at the Civic Center Mansion Galleries in Rockville, Maryland.  Greene is a member of the American Impressionist Society, the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, and was a former president of the Washington Society of Landscape Painters. SHIRLEY MAST

Shirley Mast : Focusing Inward : October 2006

Focusing Inward, the latest collection of artwork to come from photographer Shirley Mast, will be exhibited in the North Gallery of Mulberry Art Studios throughout the month of October.  The public is invited to meet the artist during an opening reception on Friday, October 6th from 5:00pm until 8:00pm, and again on Saturday, October 7th from 11:00am until 3:00pm.  Focusing Inward is also part of Downtown Lancaster’s Fall ArtWalk.

Focusing Inward was created with a 35mm film camera and consists of prints made from slides and negatives.  Mast entered the world of photography at the age of twelve on a farm in Chester County with her parents’ box camera.  Throughout her life, her love of nature and her experiences while traveling have provided the subject matter for her photography.  Mast often focuses close-up on the details, texture, and patterns in nature; creating images that help remind her of the peace and beauty of that location.  “A creative outlet for me, photography provides an opportunity for a lifetime of learning and growing” says Mast.
